History of the Institute of Musicology, SAS<\/p>\n
The Institute of Musicology (\u00dastav hudobnej vedy<\/em>) was founded in 1943 under the name Musicological Institute (Hudobnovedn\u00fd \u00fastav<\/em>), among the first research workplaces of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and Arts (Slovensk\u00e1 akad\u00e9mia vied a umen\u00ed<\/em>, 1942 \u2013 1953). In 1951 its name was changed to Institute of Musicology and it became part of the Slovak Academy of Sciences\u00a0(Slovensk\u00e1 akad\u00e9mia vied)<\/em> as one of its founding workplaces. Between 1973 and 1990, the Institute temporarily came under The Institute of Research on Art, SAS\u00a0(Umenovedn\u00fd \u00fastav SAV<\/em>) as the Musicology Section (Sekcia hudobnej vedy<\/em>). In 1990 it became independent and renewed under its original name \u00dastav hudobnej vedy Slovenskej akad\u00e9mie vied<\/em>.<\/p>\n Former directors of the Institute include\u00a0Zdenko Nov\u00e1\u010dek (1951 \u2013 1956), Jozef Kres\u00e1nek (1956 \u2013 1964), Ladislav Burlas (1964 \u2013 1988), Richard Rybari\u010d (1988 \u2013 1989), Pavol Pol\u00e1k (1989 \u2013 1990), Osk\u00e1r Elschek (1990 \u2013 1997), Juraj Lexmann (1997 \u2013 2009). The present director is Hana Urbancov\u00e1 (2009 \u2013 ).<\/p>\n In the past, the Institute of Musicology published the yearly periodical\u00a0Hudobnovedn\u00fd sborn\u00edk<\/em> (1953 \u2013 1954, two volumes), continued as\u00a0Hudobnovedn\u00e9 \u0161t\u00fadie<\/em> (1955 \u2013 1966, seven volumes). Since 1969,\u00a0the Institute has\u00a0published the journal Musicologica Slovaca<\/em>, between\u00a01992 and 2008 under the extended title\u00a0Musicologica Slovaca et Europaea<\/em>, since\u00a02010 renewed under the original name. Since 1993, the journal Ethnomusicologicum, revue pre etnomuzikol\u00f3giu a etnochoreol\u00f3giu<\/em> has been published non-periodically.
